English-speaking meetings & OA description

For English-speaking compulsive eaters

Who is OA ? Are there English meetings in France ?

Overeaters Anonymous is a Fellowship of individuals who, through shared experience, strength and hope, are recovering from compulsive overeating. We welcome everyone who wants to stop eating compulsively.

What is Overeaters Anonymous and How Can It Help You?

The mission of OA : help compulsive overeaters who still suffer

Overeaters Anonymous is a fellowship of individuals from all walks of life who meet in order to help solve a common problem : compulsive overeating. This disease includes obesity, anorexia and bulimia among others.

Our primary purpose is to abstain from compulsive overeating and to carry this message of recovery to those who still suffer.

By admitting inability to control our compulsive overeating and abandoning the idea that all one needs to be able to eat normally is “a little willpower,” it becomes possible to abstain from overeating – one day at a time. OA offers members support in dealing with the physical and emotional symptoms of compulsive overeating.

The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop eating compulsively.

Overeaters Anonymous is open to all forms of eating disorders (compulsive overeating, anorexia, bulimia, binge-eating disorder, etc…).

OA and its traditions

OA is not a diet club, and makes no claims for weight loss. Each OA member can consult qualified professionals for their individual diet/nutrition plan, any medically approved plan of eating is acceptable.

Overeaters Anonymous has no dues or fees for membership, neither solicits nor accepts outside donations. It is entirely self-supporting through contributions and sale of publications. Most groups “pass the basket” at meetings to cover expenses. OA does not solicit or accept outside contributions.

OA is not affiliated with any public or private organization, political movement, ideology or religious doctrine; we take no position on outside issues.

OA around the world

OA is a non-profit international organization with approximately 8,500 meeting groups in over 50 countries throughout the world.

Patterned after the Twelve-Step Alcoholics Anonymous program, the OA recovery program addresses physical, emotional and spiritual recovery aspects of compulsive overeating.

You can find more information in English on the international website oa.org.
